Millonarios achieved what seemed impossible. After this, everything was a little distant because he was on vacation and we had agreed on that, Falcao spoke with his family and we prepared an economic offer. I took proactive action so that the enthusiasm was not lost. The offer interested him, he thought it was fair and he understood that we were making an important effort. He called me and told me to talk in Miami on Tuesday morning. I told him that’s perfect. I took the plane on Wednesday and we decided not to meet that same day, but on Thursday morning at his house,” Serpa explained.
Millonarios signs Falcao into his home
Gustavo Serpa and Enrique Camacho, president of Millonarios, met with Falcao in Miami in the morning hours of Thursday, June 20. Perhaps they thought it would be another approach and that the negotiation would continue days later, or perhaps that it would fall apart.. None of that happened, they found the player willing, enthusiastic and with the support of his family. It was now or never. The ‘9’ was within reach. A bottle of wine would seal the deal.
“We greet his family, his wife, his in-laws. Afterwards, we went to a private room in the building with the person who advises him, she is his uncle. We arrived and they reviewed things, the terms of the offer and the possibilities. It was easy to agree, they understood some circumstances and we understood points they mentioned. Everything was easy and simple. We had lunch nearby, we had a bottle of wine and we toasted, we shook hands. Falcao appeared with the bottle of wine and there I felt a rush and I said to myself: ‘that’s it, this happened’. We shook hands, we took a photo at Camacho’s request,” Serpa continued.
After signing, shaking hands and taking a photo at that round table with 6 seats, Serpa asked for a “whiskey because what had just happened was a lot of tension,” Now it was a reality, Falcao became their new player. The meeting ended with hugs around 4 in the afternoon… A day to remember, day 1 of the adventure that Millonarios will live with one of his great idols, the one who knew how to be the best center forward in the world, the one who dreamed with one day wearing the blue shirt and being applauded in El Campín.
