Sources revealed to ESPN that the Timberwolves and coach Chris Finch agreed to a 4-year extension.

After the best season in franchise history, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finchagreed to an econtract extension for four years that will take him until the 2027-28 season, sources revealed to ESPN this Monday.

Finch has led the Timberwolves to three consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in 20 years and has accelerated the growth of the s2020 #1 overall pick, Anthony Edwardsuntil he became one of the most prodigious talents in the league.

On the road to the Western Conference finals, where Minnesota lost in five games to Dallas Mavericks, Finch suffered a tendon rupture right patella after point guard Mike Conley collided with Finch on the bench in a Game 4 victory over Phoenix in the first round. Finch underwent surgery and required his top assistant, Micah Nori, to sit on the sidelines for the remainder of the playoffs.

Despite some skepticism, Finch managed to make the attacking pairing of Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns work, building league-leading defensive efficiency. The Timberwolves also took second place in rim protection and second in paint points allowed per game this season, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Finch has gone 160-127 (.557) in parts of four seasons at the position, including a 56-26 record en route to the West finals this season. Minnesota overcame a 15-point halftime deficit, the largest in Game 7 history, to beat Denver in the Western Conference semifinals.
