Colombian soccer was surprised a few days ago after the massive departure of up to 15 referees was announced, who will not be on the Referee Commission panel for the professional soccer tournaments for the second semester.

Although not all the names were revealed, in some cases it was rumored that it was due to sports betting issues that they had to do that sweep, since in some cases there were strange aspects in the games, but none of it was proven.

Given this controversy of the scandal with referees involved, the president of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún, He spoke with Blu Radio and went against those who claimed that it was due to illegal betting, making it clear that if necessary he can take legal measures in the face of this erroneous information.

“I want to tell you that the news that came out about gambling is a vile scam, and I say it with a capital letter. “Whoever wrote that is completely irresponsible who is even subject to lawsuits for slander, liar and scoundrel,” Jesurún said forcefully.

Likewise, the president gave the real reason why so many referees retired, ensuring that the majority was due to an age issue, while others were due to a technical decision by the Arbitration Commission.

“The arbitrators come out within the discretion that the Arbitration Commission has to decide who is still on the panel or not, This is an eminently discretionary issue. HThere is a very old issue for some, there are others that are within the technical concept in which the Arbitration Commission does not consider to continue, But betting is irresponsible.”

In this way, it is clear that the referees who said goodbye to the panel were not due to illegal betting issues and we will have to wait and see who will be their replacements for the next semester of Colombian professional football.
