Almudena Ruiz Valverde, known as Deni, has achieved the second position In one of the most demanding ultra-distance races on the cycling calendar, the 24h Cyclo Circuitwhich was held last weekend at the Ricardo Tormo speed circuit in Cheste (Valencia).

Deni, a resident of Rivas and promoter in the city, together with Cristina García Pulido, of the ‘Women in Bike’ project of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation, has run the 24-hour Cyclo Circuit alone, a novelty, since she usually competes in pairs in this type of sporting event. In fact, She was the Spanish champion in pairs in the specialtywhich consists of completing as many laps as possible in the hours stipulated by the test; in this case, 24 hours.

The Rivas resident says that this time the endurance test was more difficult due to the westerly wind that blew across the circuit during the race. “The hills seemed to be twice as steep when there was a headwind; this exhausts you a lot”he reports.

After the first break to rest, Deni admits that she was motivated by knowing that she was second, the best position she could hope for “because Estefanía, the teammate who won, plays in another league,” she says. “Initially, my goal was to do at least 300 kilometers but Knowing that I was second after the first run gave me a lot of motivation.”, explains Deni.

Finally, the cyclist thought again managed to hold on to second position in the individual classification after a tough fight with the third-placed rider, who was four laps ahead of her in the final classification. “I finally covered 375 kilometres with 2,850 metres of positive gradient, and 94 laps of the circuit,” says Deni.

The resident of Rivas expressed her satisfaction with this result, which she was also able to enjoy with her family, since her children were present, as well as her husband, Julián, her brother, Juan Antonio, and her cousin, Mariano, both competitors in the category of teams of four. “I was super happy, very content, it was an immense joy to see my children and my husband from the podium. For us it is very important because it is a very tough test.“, concludes Deni, the standard-bearer of female cycling in Rivas.
