Granada have officially signed Luca Zidane, the goalkeeper from Eibar. The 26-year-old French footballer, son of former player and coach Zinedine Zidane, has signed for the red-and-whites for three seasons. The Granada team is replacing Luca after the relegation. of Augusto Batalla, a goalkeeper who arrived at Los Cármenes in the last winter transfer market on loan from River Plate and who Granada tried unsuccessfully to convince to continue as a Granada player in the Second Division. The club announced the signing with a video in which it presents Zidane as “a new season ticket holder in goal” and which ends with the slogan of the season ticket campaign in the words of the player himself: “There is nothing in life like being a Granada fan,” said Luca.

The deal with Eibar, a rival in the second division next season, came to fruition after the release clause was paid in the face of Eibar’s refusal to negotiate for the Frenchman. The figure reached exactly 500,000 euros. Granada accelerated the process when they received Batalla’s final decision to leave the club and return to his native Argentina. Along with Granada, several First and Second Division teams also showed interest in securing Luca’s services in this transfer window.

One of them was Paco López’s Cádiz, the former Granada coach who will be reunited this season with the club that was his until last year. Rayo, Girona and Getafe asked about Luca’s situation, who opted for the Granada goal. There he will meet Marc Martínez, the goalkeeper who Sandoval lined up in Granada’s last three games in the First Division. The Eibar goalkeeper from Marseille was a starter in all 42 matches of the last Hypermotion League, as well as in the semi-finals of the promotion play-off that the Basque team lost to Real Oviedo.
