Despite Max Verstappen’s 8 pole positions this season, Silverstone has not been the ideal setting for the two Red Bulls, both for Checo Pérez who went into the gravel in Q1, and a three-time champion who did not achieve a good time in Q3 which made him finish in 4th position, denoting that Mercedes or McLaren have more pace on this track.

An expensive mistake

During qualifying in Great Britain, Max Verstappen went off the track at the same corner that cost Sergio Pérez the session. This action caused damage to the RB20’s floor, which would influence the Dutchman’s times during the session.

Despite this result, The Red Bull driver knows that the team is struggling to keep up with the rest of the teams, so he knows that the result obtained is positive, especially on this Silverstone circuit, where the fast corners are taking their toll on the car.

“We left late and we didn’t expect it to rain. The guys in front had already passed through that area, while I got caught in the rain, so I ended up off course. I was a bit unlucky at the entrance to Copse. I avoided hitting the barriers, but from there I suffered a lot of damage to the bottom,” said the Red Bull driver.

“The team did a great job trying to limit the damage, but there were some missing pieces that couldn’t be glued together. From then on we had problems with the balance of the car. I’m happy to be in fourth place.“, he continued.

I think the GP will be very competitive, the others did a good job and were fast. We made some changes and the car was better in qualifying, but we couldn’t find the pace,” concluded Max Verstappen.

This is how the Red Bull driver wanted to show his optimism with the RB20 despite the result obtained in qualifying by a driver who is used to taking pole position every weekend.
