As Celtas, Celta’s women’s project, will start this season in the Third Federation, the fourth category of Spanish women’s football, with the aim of moving up through the categories until reaching the elite. Until last season, this competition was a category in which promotion was really difficult, since only the group winners managed to get promoted to the Second Federation.

This will change, as Faro de Vigo reports, as the Federation will convert this category into an autonomous one starting next season, increasing the number of groups in the Second Federation, which will go from two to three, and with it the number of promotions in the Third Federation.

Now, not only the champions will automatically go up, but also the second-placed teams, while the third-placed teams in the group will participate in a play-off which will also include the two best teams that finish in fourth position in the six groups that currently make up this category. Of these 8 teams, 4 will be promoted to the Second Federation.

This season, Celtas will face two teams from Vigo, Sárdoma and Lóstrego, two teams that have been working very well in women’s football for some time now, and who also aspire to achieve promotion.
