Homer Martinez will be a new player of Independent Medellin, club that reached an agreement with Junior to acquire their federative rights.

The 26-year-old from Malamba, who plays as a defensive midfielder and central defender, had communicated to the management of the shark team that in case there was an offer from another team, it should be studied since his desire was to change of scenery.

The player is expected in Medellin in the next few hours to undergo medical examinations after which he will sign a three-year contract, according to journalist José Hugo Illera.

After its sale was completed to ‘Mighty of the Mountain’, Homer was excluded from the Junior squad that traveled to Cartagena to face the friendly quadrangular organized by the Mayor’s Office of that city.

One of the reasons Hómer Martínez asked to leave Junior is the number of players in his position: Didier Moreno, Victor Cantillo, Jhon Velez, Andres Colorado and Yani Quintero. Another is the rejection that his name had generated among the fans.

Hómer Martínez was trained in the youth academy of Barranquilla Football Club, in Bomboná, and played in the promotion tournament with this team between 2017 and 2019. In this last year he was promoted to Junior and in 2020 he was loaned to Atletico Bucaramanga.

He returned to Junior in 2021 and in 2022 he suffered a serious injury that kept him off the courts for six months. He returned in 2023 and in the second half he won the title of the Colombian League.

The departure of Hómer Martínez joins that of Vladimir Hernandez, Walter Pacheco, Brayan Ceballos, Fabian Cantillo, Diego Mendoza, Johan Bocanegra, Omar Albornoz and Yeferson Moreno.
