Colombian rider Santiago Buitrago tried to be part of the breakaway of the day and in the end he did not succeed, however he tried to minimize the losses and stay alive in the fight to enter the top ten of the Tour de France.

At the end of the stage he said: “Today was a very, very fast stage, less than 5 hours and 211 km with more than 4,000 meters of elevation gain, crazy. It’s a shame, at the beginning I spent a lot of money to get into the breakaway thinking that today was an opportunity to break away and well, in the end everything adds up,” said the man from Bogota.

He was also satisfied with his performance: “Nothing, I am happy that I gave it my all until the end, always wanting to give my best and well, today, today is all in my legs,” said the Bahrain rider.

In his debut in the French round he is improving: “At the moment, yes, we are improving. As I always say, I would like to be much further ahead, everything you spend adds up, you pay for everything and well. I think that having tried to get into a breakaway helped me to suffer in that way at the end, but no. I don’t regret anything, there are still many stages, there is still a lot of the Tour and we will keep trying,” he said.

He has high expectations for the final part of the Tour: “I like stages like today because they hurt us all, the wear and tear today adds to everyone, both those who win and those behind, so that makes the days harder, that by the third week we are all a little more tired and yes, I have confidence for the third week, we have worked very well and sooner or later the good results will come,” he concluded.
