Frank van den Broek wins the Tour of Turkey that remains without the last stage winner

EsCiclismo.com · Road Competition · 04/28/2024

Dutch cyclist Frank van den Broek (DSM-Firmenich) has won the 59th edition of the Tour of Turkey after maintaining the lead in the eighth and final stage, a day initially planned for 105.4 kilometers starting and finishing in Istanbul.

On a day marked by slightly adverse weather conditions, Frank van den Broek easily overcame the last obstacle to finish on top of the podium in the Turkish round. The Eritrean Merhawi Kudus (Terengganu Cycling) and the British Paul Double (Polti-Kometa) completed the honorary positions.

Shortly after starting the stage, the organizers announced that “due to the slippery state of the roads, it has been decided to neutralize stage 8. The peloton will travel the planned route, but only one lap instead of five and will head to Sultanahmet with the holders of the distinctive jerseys at the front of the platoon”.

Thus, the stage was ‘decaffeinated’, without a winner of the last stage, without points or classifications at stake and reduced to a 65 kilometer ride through Istanbul, with the cyclists riding behind the race director’s car.

Frank van den Broek succeeded in the palmares of the Turkey Tour to the Kazakh Alexey Lutsenko, winner of the last edition.
