Nationals tie series in Detroit with their 5th straight victory

DETROIT — CJ Abrams had a double and a home run as the Washington Nationals beat the Detroit Tigers 7-5 on Wednesday and won five for the first time in three years.

Jake Irvin (5-5) allowed one run and six hits in six innings.

Washington had last won five in a row from June 19-24, 2024. A victory on Thursday would give the club its first six-game winning streak since eight from Sept. 23-29, 2019, the year it won. the World Series.

Reese Olson (1-8) allowed five runs (four earned) and 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings, in which he walked a pair. Olson has a 10.43 ERA in three starts during June after posting a 1.92 ERA in his first 10 starts.

Matt Vierling opened the game with a home run for the first time in his career to give Olson the lead. However, Abrams tied it with a home run in the third inning.

The Nationals took a 2-1 lead on Keibert Ruiz’s sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and took control with three runs in the fifth.

For the Nationals, Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario went 1 for 5 with one run scored. Mexican Joey Meneses went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Venezuelan Ruiz 3-1 with an RBI.

For the Tigers, Dominican Wenceel Pérez was 3-for-4 with one run scored. Colombian Gio Urshela is 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Cuban Andy Ibáñez 1-1.
