Springer (2 HR), Berrios (8 K) led Blue Jays to rout Yankees

TORONTO — George Springer had three hits, including a pair of three-run homers, Puerto Rican José Berríos excelled over seven innings and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 9-2 on Thursday.

The Yankees suffered their fourth consecutive loss, their worst streak of the season. They have lost nine of their last 11 games.

Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added a solo home run, his eleventh, and Toronto achieved a pair of wins after suffering seven consecutive losses.

Berrios (7-6) was 0-3 in three starts against New York last season. This time, he allowed two runs and two hits while walking three and striking out a season-high eight batters.

The Yankees opened June with five straight wins, capping an eight-game skid. Since then, their record is 7-12.

Singer’s two home runs came against Carlos Rodón (9-5). The struggling left-hander has given up eight runs in consecutive outings. He has 21 runs in his last three starts, all losses.
