Several Baldur’s Gate 3 players have criticized mods that attempt to make party members more “attractive,” claiming that they make them “irrational angry.”
The characters that can be part of your party in Baldur’s Gate 3 are undoubtedly the game’s strong point. The unique designs, impressive performances, and well-written dialogue have made figures like Astarion and Shadowheart instantly recognizable, and even NPCs like Alfira receive similar praise.
Considering how popular these characters are, it’s only natural for players to defend their designs and backstory, especially when things like a character’s race or class play such an important role in their personal history and behavior. This is why some mods, which are designed to change what characters (usually female ones) are like, are receiving so much hate from the community. It doesn’t help that many of these modifications alter such marked traits of the characters.
Baldur’s Gate 3 players strongly criticize beauty mods
One of the most offensive examples recently appeared on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, where Minthara’s imperious features were replaced by a more docile and “conventionally attractive” appearance.

Player reactions to these changes have been notably negative: “Mods like this make me irrationally angry“said one.
“At the end of the day, I don’t care if people use those mods. It’s your game. Does not matter. But every time I see it I cringe a little. Like: ‘What have they done to you?“commented another.
Another player compared the mod to a K-pop facelift: “Minthara is already beautiful. I really hate insta-baddie companion mods and I personally wouldn’t change the way they look“.
