I am convinced that the Google Pixel 8 is the best Android phone you can buy right now under 700 euros: good performance, a brutal camera system and the perfect size that a mobile phone should have. And I also think that it is, along with the offer on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the bargain of this Black Friday, the best you will find this year in price when it comes to mobile phones above the mid-range. But let’s go back to the fact that it is the best Android mobile of 2023. This is clear to me until the Google Pixel 8a comes out between now and May 2024, when I think I can change my mind. I have become an evangelist of the Google Pixel 7a, leading by example, and writing hagiographies of the mobile here and there… but the value proposition of the Pixel 8 range onwards makes me rethink my faith in the previous model , even on Black Friday dates. The Pixel 8 is a better buy than the Pixel 7a right now, no matter how cheap you see the latter. Above that price we can talk about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and we can also talk about my beloved Asus Zenfone 10, which now on Black Friday lowers its 256 GB version to 850 euros (that’s 100 euros off). However, the fact that Google guarantees that it will update the Google Pixel 8 software for 7 years makes me opt for that model. The fact that it is reduced to 672 euros on Black Friday on Amazon (it has a discount and an additional coupon of 50 euros that leaves it at this price), should convince even the most interested. Well, that and it is 240 euros cheaper than the 128GB iPhone 15.

The only drawback that could be put on the Google Pixel 8 was that it went on the market 100 euros more expensive than the Google Pixel 7. It is undeniable that the Google Pixel 8 is an infinitely better phone, but being the Google input, 100 euros more is an uphill climb. So 120 euros below its price, the problem disappears. Finding everything that the Google Pixel 8 offers for less than 1,000 euros, the truth is that it is complicated, very complicated. This mobile phone comes with Google’s clean version of Android 14, which guarantees that it runs smoother than any layer on Android that is invented.
The Pixel 8 has a dual-camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor and an upgraded 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor that takes better photos than any Android phone, with the exception of the Samsung Galaxy S23. Although the camera only has two lenses, Google’s photo processing is where the magic is done. The new ultra-wide-angle camera adds autofocus to capture sharp macro photos (let’s see, it’s not the level of the Pixel 8 Pro, that’s another level). The Pixel 8 still has Google’s Magic Eraser feature, which erases unwanted brothers-in-law in photos. The new Audio Magic Eraser uses AI to remove noise in videos. Google also incorporates the Magic Editor function, which allows you to move the protagonists of an image or change the background (you’ll waste your time). The new Best Take feature uses AI to improve facial expressions in photos (if you’re a parent of two living beings, I’m telling you, you’re going to get the most out of it).
The screen is another plus of this mobile (remember: along with its size, a bit smaller than last year’s Pixel 7). The Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch OLED display with almost no borders and can offer up to 2,000 nits outdoors.
The proposal for seven years of updates is not just commercial. It is a kind of leap of faith towards this product and towards the capabilities of Tensor processors (this model already has the Tensor 2 chip installed) and Google AI in the future. Let’s see, it is clear that you should never buy a technological device for what it will do in the future or for the capacity it will have in the future, but it is clear that the performance of this mobile phone will improve over the years. . Wow, now that I think about it: it is the same value proposition as Apple mobile phones!
