For Gavin Brown, head of local licensing agency Crescendo Brands, the opportunities are clear: The great appeal of the Beatles on vinyl translates into other categories.

This year has started well for the Beatles. Following the surprise release of Now and Then, their first No. 1 single since 1970, a series of new licensed products have helped them commemorate 60 years since their debut on American television. That moment is becoming more legendary every year in the world of music, says Gavin Brown, head of the licensing agency Crescendo Brands, in charge of managing the property rights. The United States considers it a turning point in its history.

Products released to commemorate the anniversary include a diorama of MEGA’s Ed Sullivan studio and, for Record Store Day, a collector’s record player with miniature 3-inch vinyl records, which naturally include the songs played that night. . Everyone knows that the Beatles are the world’s favorite group, but what’s really valuable are the millions of people who want to know the details of their career, explains Brown.

Crescendo Brands has managed the rights to The Beatles since 2009 and encourages local licensees to think specifically and embrace the kidult trend. The fandom here may be less obsessive than in the United States or Japan, but Brown remembers the collecting mania of one of the first Spanish experiences: We offered a 30-euro presentation rack for a set of collectible mugs and received orders for more than 8,000. units in a couple of weeks.

In the years since, the music market has been turned upside down as services like YouTube and Spotify decimated traditional distribution. For Crescendo Brands, the reaction could not have been better. The trends derived from this, such as a greater presence of the world of music in retail and the fetishization of vinyl records, have only helped clients such as Universal Music, Inditex and Grupo Erik.

According to Brown, both trends have consolidated the Beatles’ position: Since music became essentially free, we have a whole new set of music fans willing to pay 30, 50 or 100 euros for anything that has trophy status, Explain. As artists considered by most to be the fathers of modern music, the Beatles have a lot to offer in this space.
