Modders bring GTA 5 to the Nintendo Switch using source code that leaked online in 2023, but is unplayable

A group of modders has achieved what seemed impossible: making Grand Theft Auto V work on a Nintendo Switch. And as expected from the console’s hardware, although the original game was released in 2013, Nintendo’s hybrid device seems to have difficulty running it correctly.

The achievement was originally shared in a clip https://twitter.com/SuperstarS31668/status/1780676856129196294, where modding group Superstar South posted this short two-minute video showing Grand Theft Auto V running on a Nintendo Switch. As previously mentioned, internet users have been working on this project since March, with the aim of offering an unofficial version of GTA V for Nintendo’s hybrid console, as well as for Android and Linux.

A task that unfortunately, we must warn that is totally illegal, since to achieve this, this group of fans seems to have used the source code of the game that was leaked on the Internet after the hacks suffered by Rockstar in recent years, which has been available online since December 2023. However, this has not stopped Superstar South from working on this unofficial port of GTA 5 for Nintendo Switch.

As we anticipated, the performance is very poor and at first glance, it presents an unplayable version, since Grand Theft Auto V suffers from numerous slowdowns and quite low visual quality on Nintendo Switch. Despite being an early version of this unofficial port, it is noted that the performance is worse than on Xbox 360 and PS3, despite the fact that Nintendo’s hybrid console came out four years after GTA 5.

Regardless, this project creates interest and anticipation to see what the game would look like in handheld mode rather than docked mode. Although with all the legal problems that have existed around GTA leaks and Nintendo’s campaigns to protect their products, it would not be strange to see the group of modders receive a letter asking them to desist and cancel this work.

Hackers manage to play GTA Vice City on a router connected to a graphics card without using a PC

Internet users are always challenging technology and computing to see how far they can go, and in the most famous cases there are those who seek to verify that the game Doom, or the video clip Bad Apple!! It can be played on any technological device. And now the video game GTA Vice City is added, which managed to be played through a router without needing a PC to do so.

This crazy idea was designed by hackers Manawyrm and tSYS, who carried out complex engineering and computing work to make Vice City work inside the router and explained through their blog how they achieved this process that took months of trial and error with different hardware, programming codes, and that is difficult to explain, but not as complex as the execution of the project.
