Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 FE cancelled: Cheaper Fan Edition foldable not expected in 2024

For years, hints of cheaper Lite versions of Samsung’s foldables have appeared in the rumor mill regularly, but have never materialized in the form of an actual Fan Edition model. This year, certain voices in industry circles have been particularly vocal on the topic of entry-level foldables. Countless reports from South Korea and various leakers have repeatedly commented on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE – Samsung is said to have been working harder than ever on a slimmer but cheaper Galaxy Z Fold model this year.

However, this one will not land in stores in 2024, at least not according to the latest information from industry representatives (via ETNews) on the one hand and a typically reliable leaker. https://twitter.com/Revegnus1/status/1789945194512523300. The South Korean report mentions that Samsung is re-evaluating its original plans after the entry-level foldable, planned as the Galaxy Z Fold FE, proved to be no thinner than the Chinese competition despite the lack of a digitizer for the S Pen. The leaker, for his part, limits himself to stating that the device “is cancelled.”

In other words, due to uncertain market conditions and lack of unique selling points compared to the competition, Samsung has canceled development ahead of mass production scheduled for May. Consequently, the report assumes that only the well-known folding duo will be launched in July, i.e. the successor to the

Galaxy Z Fold5 on the one hand, and the Galaxy Z Fold6 on the other. Competing companies also seem to be pulling back a bit from the foldable market this year, as leakers have increasingly emphasized lately. The first foldable smartphones from Xiaomi and Honor are expected.
