Google Maps continues to improve hand in hand with the development of the American company, and now it is Augmented Reality that will join the system. This was one of the novelties that was announced during the second day of Google I/O.

Google Maps will become augmented reality this 2024

Now, users will be able to access augmented reality content by first searching for a location on Google Maps. If the location has augmented reality content and the user is nearby, they will need to tap the image that says “Augmented Reality Experience” and simply pick up the phone.

If someone is exploring a location from a distance, they can see the same augmented reality experience in Street View. After exploring the content of Google Maps in Augmented Reality, Users can share the experience via deep link URL or QR code on social media.

When content is available and the user is near a landmark, an AR experience tile will appear in that landmark’s camera roll. Users can tap this content and bring their phone closer to the landmark to view a Google Lens guide that will reveal interesting information about the area, including fun facts and deeper history.

This feature will initially launch on a limited basis as part of a six-month pilot program in Singapore and Paris. It is not yet known when it will spread to other cities and emblematic places in the world.
