It is much more than an update: it is a collaboration with major airlines

Mark Zuckerberg has already tested the Apple Vision Pro. He admits that they are good, but he continues to maintain that his Meta Quest 3 is a better product. The reason? “It seems like there are a lot of people who assumed that the Vision Pro would be higher quality because it’s from Apple and costs $3,000 more. Honestly, I’m pretty surprised that the Quest is so much better for the vast majority of things that people use this device with that price difference.”

Beyond darts between companies, Meta has announced a curious update for Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3. One that makes them more similar than ever to Vision Pro.

The travel mode sounds familiar to us

From its blog, Meta has announced an update that provides the so-called “travel mode” to both Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3. As Apple showed in the announcement of its glasses, it is a mode specially designed for when we are traveling away from home .

Meta gives us the same example of the popular advertisement: being in the middle of a flight and enjoying all the multimedia content of the glasses while we are on board. With this travel mode, we can play those contents that function offline, as well as connect to the plane’s WiFi network in case we need a connection.

The main feature of this mode is that the Quest’s algorithms have been adjusted to take into account the movement and shaking of the plane, in order to stabilize the image for a better experience. Not only have small movements of the plane and turbulence been taken into account: this mode has also been configured so that the experience is stable even when the plane takes off.

The new features of the mode do not stop there: Meta indicates that, depending on the airline (it does not detail which ones, although it does tell us about a partnership with Lufthansa), the glasses can automatically detect that we are flying thanks to the WiFi network and recommend that we activate the mode of travel.

Likewise, in collaboration with this airline, personalized content will be offered for the Quest such as movies, games, podcasts or meditation exercises.
