WhatsApp begins to cancel the unlimited use of storage within Google Drive for backup, in a modification that was announced for a period of six months, but that takes several users by surprise.

This time, the change affects Android users who, from mid-2024, will have a space limit of 15 GB. Those on iOS had already suffered limitations that were even reduced to 5 GB.

The Meta product is linked to a Gmail account in which all the files and data from the application’s chats are hosted. This is a vital function when migrating from mobile phones or when they fail.

“If you exceed that limit, you must free up space in your Google account to resume backups,” indicated a WhatsApp statement at the end of 2023, where it announced the modification. “This change will be implemented for users of the Beta version starting in December 2023, and will gradually be extended to all WhatsApp users on Android throughout the first half of 2024,” the text added.
