It is not what those who a few months ago, in the middle of Christmas, decided to rob the Apple Store in Nueva Condomina, Murcia. They did it dressed in Christmas outfits and, unfortunately, it turned out well.
“Santa Claus” robbed the Apple Store in Murcia
Apple Stores are always highly coveted places by thieves. The value of the products displayed and stored there is high. We have already seen it in our own country with robberies like the one in Valencia in 2019. Far from our borders we have also seen clever thieves. However, nothing like Murcia.
As several local media highlighted, the thieves They dressed in Santa hats. It’s not that it’s an outfit that goes unnoticed, but it was in the middle of the Christmas season and in broad daylight, so in the end it wasn’t surprising at all to see people dressed like that. Although for them it was key, since it was enough for their faces not to be recognized.
The fact is that they pretended to be simple curious people who were walking through the shopping center, entered the store and destroyed what they could. Police sources did not specify how much they managed to take, although they do date the loot to “tens of thousands of euros.”
It is also known that one of the security agents tried to chase the thieves until they reached the door of the shopping center. There he was able to observe how the two individuals They fled in a high-end car which was already started and with the presence of a third member who would be in charge of driving the vehicle.
To this day it is unknown if they have managed to arrest the thieves. And apart from the little information provided by the Police, several contradictory indications come together. Some witnesses claim that the thieves had Eastern European features, while others point out that they are Arabs.
In any case, it is pointed out that It would be an organized gang and that, apart from having this plan measured to the millimeter, they could have acted in other stores belonging to luxury brands.
Apple already plans to make these thefts (even more) useless
The stolen Apple products, as they were also on display, would have been completely blocked since the thieves left the store premises. This means that they cannot be sold in second-hand markets and, if they are, they have problems as they are devices that cannot work.
This is why devices are generally sold piecemeal, which does give thieves an economic return. However, Apple has already announced new measures to also protect parts and prevent them from working on other devices without authorization, thus foreseeing the end of this black market for iPhone, iPad or Mac parts.
