Life goes on the same in Japan. And by ‘equal’ we mean that Nintendo and Switch games continue to reign with an iron fist, given the few releases from Sony and some multiplatforms that manage to sneak into the weekly sales rankings.
In fact, Nintendo managed to sell a whopping 600,000 games in September 2024 in Japan alone, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe surpassing six million and Echoes of Wisdom selling more than 200,000 copies in its debut.
On the horizon, facing the next Japanese sales ranking, Silent Hill 2 Remake is expected to compete with Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which remains number 1 in the land of the rising sun.
In its second week, the game starring Princess Zelda was once again the best seller, although two newcomers (also from Switch) managed to sneak into the top 10.
At the hardware level, there are hardly any new features to highlight. Nintendo Switch remains at the top, with PS5 far below, and Xbox Series X|S triumphing only over the already outdated PlayStation 4.
We review the most notable sales data of the week of September 30 to October 6, 2024 in Japanfollowing Famitsu measurements (via Gematsu).
Zelda keeps the queen’s staff… waiting for the terror
As number 1 in the top 10, Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom managed to sell more than 48,000 copiesharvesting almost 250,000 games sold (Japan only) in less than two weeks since its launch.
These are more than enough figures to surpass Sword Art: Fractured Daydreamnew installment of the Bandai Namco saga, which was the strongest release last week.
Sword Art consolidated two presences in the top, with the Switch and PS5 versions as the second and third best-selling game of the week in Japan. In total, sold almost 24,000 copies on its debut.
There is not much more news to comment on. Switch exclusives such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing, Ring Fit or Switch Sports occupy the rest of the positions, in the usual presence of Minecraft, Honey Vibes debut y the stoic endurance of EA Sports FC 25 (in its Switch version).
