Florida is preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Milton, so the Tampa airport has already closed this Tuesday morning, and the Orlando airport is scheduled to operate until noon.

Hurricane Milton is headed toward Florida as a Category 5 storm with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph, according to data from the National Hurricane Center. It is expected to impact the cities of Tampa and Orlando on Wednesday night, and will leave flooding throughout the State.

According to FlightAware.com, travelers should expect cancellations and delays at other airports in Sarasota, Fort Myers and Clearwater. For its part, the Tampa airport “urges travelers to follow emergency management advisories and pay close attention to public safety alerts,” it said.

The National Hurricane Center reported that Milton was 245 miles from Dry Tortugas, Florida at 11 pm Tuesday, and 405 miles southwest of Tampa and moving in an east-northeast direction.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor noted that “I can say without dramatizing at all: if they decide to stay in one of those evacuation zones, they are going to die.”

As reported REPORTUR.usrecently the powerful Hurricane Helene arrived in northeastern Florida in category 4, leaving destruction in its wake and one person dead despite warnings from the authorities. However, Helene lowered her intensity to category 1 arriving in Georgia. (Florida: devastation by ‘Helene’ with airports closed).

The hurricane made landfall in Big Bend as a category 4, with winds of more than 225 kilometers per hour. Several airports in Florida closed due to the storm, and airlines canceled hundreds of flights.
