If Spain has shown anything, it is that it is one of the most dangerous teams on the continent, even having 10 men. European champion Robin Le Normand was sent off in the 20th minute of the UEFA Nations League final against Switzerland, but won 4-1 away from home.

The Spaniards were already 2-0 up at the time of the change and could have easily scored after Zeki Amduni scored. But just as they did at Euro 2024, Spain came out stronger and scored a big victory, with Fabián Ruiz and Ferrán Torres making it easy despite putting in a lot of effort.

Going deeper is not something that Spain has to do very often. They were in uncharted waters as Switzerland dominated possession and had 20 attempts on goal, but the Spaniards’ determination did not stop, they kept things close at the back and bided their time to open up.

Now an even greater challenge looms on the horizon. Saturday’s match against Denmark will be something of a coronation, as Spain’s fans prepare to cheer on the reigning Euro 2024 champions in their first home game since winning this summer’s trophy.

Luis de la Fuente’s team are now seeking a second Nations League trophy, but this time Denmark top their group. The Danes have claimed two wins to start their campaign, scoring four unanswered goals in the process. They have six points from four Spanish teams.

Saturday’s game should be no easy task for Spain against a team that is thriving under new coach Lars Knudsen. The Danes look fresh and confident after winning each of their last two games against Switzerland and Serbia 2-0.

Playing Spain at home will be a completely different equation for Denmark and they don’t have any good record against the Spanish. They have beaten Spain just twice in their 16 meetings in all competitions, and you have to go back to March 1993 to see the last time they tasted victory, in a 1-0 Cup qualifier.

The only thing Denmark can count on is that Spain will be missing several key players due to injury. They will be without star midfielder Rodri, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL. Right-back Dani Carvajal will also miss out after suffering an injury late in the season with Real Madrid.

Le Normand will miss the match through suspension, while Nico Williams has been withdrawn and replaced by Sergio Gomes after complaining of “discomfort”.

Meanwhile, captain Álvaro Morata and Euro 2024 final scorer Mikel Oyarzabal return to the squad, as does Alex Baena. Also mentioned were Mikel Merino and Pedro Porro from the ‘Arsenal’ team, who did not participate in the last international break.

Denmark are delighted to welcome talismanic striker Rasmus Hojlund. The Manchester United striker returned to the field after an injury and can now play against the Spanish team.

Game prediction

Spain 3-1 Denmark

Denmark are not sloppy and will have to make Spain work to win, but De La Fuente’s men have quality all over the field, even without some of their best players.
