Sotelo advances in close relationship with the Vatican and seeks new saints in Argentina

After the tension and disagreements in public and private, the Government sought to get closer to Pope Francis through the Secretary of Worship of the Nation, Nahuel Sotelo, who met with the Supreme Pontiff in the Vatican. According to Sotelo, the meeting was very positive.

Unlike his predecessor, Francisco Sánchez, Sotelo has begun to establish links with all cults, holding meetings with the main religious leaders in and making steady progress in the close relationship with the Vatican. During his visit, he also met with senior officials of the Holy See.

According to what emerged from the meeting between Sotelo and Francisco, opinions were exchanged about the current situation in the country, with the Pope offering his point of view. The intention of the ruling party was also expressed that at some point, during Javier Milei’s mandate, the Pope visits Argentina.

Both representatives, who share their passion for the San Lorenzo soccer team, spoke in a relaxed atmosphere and in good humor, according to official sources. Unlike the last meeting of the Supreme Pontiff with a member of the Government, on this occasion videos and images of the meeting were made public.

It should be remembered that after seeing Minister Sandra Pettovello, Francisco harshly criticized the Government, especially for the repression during the retiree march. These criticisms were made in a meeting with social movements, in which Juan Grabois, a known enemy of the ruling party, participated.

On the other hand, Sotelo had a very active agenda in Rome, meeting with important members of the Holy See. Among them, the Substitute of the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro and the prefect of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Miguel Ayuso Guixot.

In addition, he is already working to ensure that Argentina has two new saints: Enrique Shaw, a Catholic businessman, and Argentino del Valle Larrabure, who was kidnapped and murdered by the ERP in August 1975.
