Javier Milei renames the Kirchner Cultural Center: what new name did he choose

The national government would publish in the next few hours a Decree that moves forward with the name change of the Néstor Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK).

The modification announced months ago will be reconfirmed and the space will be renamed Palacio Libertad. To celebrate the measure, Javier Milei will lead an event in the building on Saturday, where a symphony orchestra will play the hymn to Domingo Faustino Sarmiento.

The Government announced that it was going to rename the cultural center five months ago. Now, with the decree soon to be issued, a change of era is expected, led by the President. Workers at the site are in charge of removing all that remains of the old CCK signage and replacing it with the new one.

Since this Thursday, the CCK.gob.ar website already shows its new identity under the name of Palacio Libertad.

It is also expected that between Friday and Saturday the former Palace of Post Office and Telecommunications will appear with a new sign that will indicate “Palacio Libertad.”

The name of the CCK has always been a source of dispute between Kirchnerism (at the time the ruling party) and various sectors of the opposition that more than once dreamed of changing its name.

In 2017, the administration headed by Mauricio Macri threatened to move forward in this direction and a huge stir was generated. In this context, the then head of the Federal Public Media System, Hernán Lombardi, had to come out to clarify that the initiative that sought to rename the building Gustavo Cerati had not come from the Government.

However, when asked if he liked the name of the Kirchner Cultural Center, the official responded: “We believe there may be better ones.”
