An MTA worker was pepper-sprayed after asking a woman to get up on a stopped No. 1 subway train in the Bronx. this Monday morning, according to police sources.

The 53-year-old cleaning employee was working on the train at the subway station Van Cortland Park-242nd Street in Kingsbridge around 4:27 a.m. when he asked the sleeping person to get off, authorities explained.

It was at that moment that the suspect sprayed the worker in the face with pepper spray.New York Police Department (NYPD) officials said.

The victim was taken to Presbyterian Allen Hospital in New York. The woman fled the scene on foot.officials indicated and Pix 11 News reported.

A similar attack happened last Monday on a train stopped in Queens. The agents indicated that An MTA employee was hit in the face with a punch after waking up a sleeping subject and asking him to disembark.

The suspect at that scene was detained without incident, NYPD said.

MTA employees have requested greater security measures in the New York subway after several attacks on their workers.

For her part, the governor Kathy Hochul has imposed a new security measures plan, which includes more random bag checks and that the National Guard joins the NYPD in stations for regular patrolling in subway stations.
