A group of Human rights activistsand figures from the field of Argentine culture, among whom is the winner of a Nobel Peace Prize Adolfo Pérez Esquivelformally presented, yesterday, a request for impeachment against the president of Argentina, Javier Mileifor “poor performance of their duties and possible commission of crimes.”

The promoters of this initiative, which must pass several filters before the celebration of a political trialthey quote the “economic genocide” –in reference to the hardness of the economic adjustment undertaken by the Milei Executive– as one of the causes.

On the contrary, yesterday, the president of the Argentine executive addressed the nation in a speech in which he positively valued the economic measures applied these last four months. Milei celebrated having achieved a surplus of 0.2% of GDP in three months and confessed that the situation “is tough”, but assured: “We have already gone more than half the way.”

However, the promoters of this political trial against the Argentine president describe the situation as a “brutal deprivation of a decent life for growing sectors of the people who are unable to access and satisfy their basic needs for work in decent conditions, food, housing , health, medication and education.

The document, which is 25 pages long, calls for the investigation of both the president and other officials for several possible crimes, including instigation to commit crimes, advocacy of crime and incitement to commit financial crimes, and advocacy of crime, according to the newspaper. Page 12.

In this sense, the crime of abandonment of people and failure to fulfill the duties of a public official is mentioned due to the dismantling of the resources assigned to the Argentina National Plan Against Hunger and the suspension of Directorate of Direct Assistance for Special Situations. He also considers that there has been misappropriation of public funds and embezzlement due to the dismantling of public education.

Milei, however, remains unperturbed, and continues to defend his plans. «Today we can affirm without a doubt that, despite the opposition of a good part of the economic and political establishment of the Argentina“Despite those who systematically question our ideas and despite those who directly proclaim our failure to return to power, the Government was right and our plan is working,” the president stated yesterday.
