  • Company received the I-REC certification (International Renewable Energy Certificate) delivered by Kallpa Generación that validates and ensures the use of clean energy.
  • With this initiative, Gold Fields has managed to reduce 30% of its emissions.

Promoting sustainability with real actions is a path that Gold Fields has demonstrated throughout its years of operation in Peru, favorably impacting people, their communities and the environment. One of its initiatives towards 2030 is to strengthen its ESG initiatives and continue innovating in the management of its environmental footprint.

In this aspect, thanks to the partnership with Kallpa Generación, it has been registering successful progress on its path to decabornization. So much so that the mining company has just received the I-REC Certification for the third consecutive year for the use of clean energy from 100% renewable sources.

“It is strategic for us to bet on the use of renewable energy, since it is one of our six ESG priorities towards 2030. Compared to our 2016 baseline, we have achieved a 30% reduction in net CO2 equivalent emissions. And given that we expect to grow in terms of production in the coming years, the absolute goal will be a 50% reduction in these emissions. This important objective is aligned with the commitment that we also maintain with the Paris Agreement”“said Ronald Díaz, Vice President of Operations of Gold Fields Las Américas and General Manager of Cerro Corona.”

It should be noted that there were more than 152 thousand MWH of clean energy supplied to Gold Fields from the Cerro del Águila hydroelectric plant, operated by Kallpa Generación, and that correspond to the period 2023. “Gold Fields is an important client for Kallpa and since 2006 we have been strategic partners aimed at a single objective, which is to help them comply with their sustainable development policies. Through I-REC certificates, we guarantee the supply of 100% renewable energy, and we will continue working on new projects and innovative solutions to support our allies in their ESG policies.”commented Irwin Frisancho, Commercial Manager of Kallpa Generación.
