OS-7 Rancagua has carried out dozens of procedures this year, achieving seizures in different communes in the O’Higgins region. Among these, Quinta de Tilcoco stands out, where, in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office, the seizure of nearly five thousand plants grown indoors and the arrest of two people of Chinese nationality were achieved.
This is the most important seizure in the Region and probably in the entire south-central zone of the country, due to the technology involved, the number of plants and the investigative aspects it has involved.
Every blow to drug trafficking is the result of the constant and permanent investigative work of the specialized team of Carabineros of the O’Higgins Zone, with support from the anti-drug department OS-7 of the Metropolitan Region and territorial police, as well as the use of logistical means (drones , helicopters and others), in addition to various research techniques.
TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH
Each seizure carried out by the specialized team of OS-7 Cachapoal implies an exhaustive investigation that seeks to dismantle criminal organizations dedicated to illicit drug trafficking, money laundering and/or illicit association.
To do this, they have patrols focused on specific areas of work: The dismantling of criminal gangs that import drugs; to trafficking in small quantities in the towns and, the control patrol with the canine specimen “Gazam”. They all operate individually and at the same time coordinated depending on the operations, in search of the objective of preventing drugs from reaching the streets and the population.
Additionally, and due to changes in crime and new ways of transporting drugs, this Unit is constantly training and incorporating technologies that allow the neutralization of these criminal organizations that adopt different strategies to avoid being detected by Carabineros and achieve their goal of marketing the drugs. drugs.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
Each visible action of the OS-7 is the consequence of the exhaustive study of the points of interest, based on research into various factors, which in the case of marijuana has to do with climatic and geographical conditions, among many other aspects. This is the case of the Cannabis Sativa Plan 2023-2024, which is developed in the summer, from November to April, and which this year reached a record seizure in the region of more than 18 thousand plants in the commune of Chimbarongo.
Also in the communes of Pichilemu, Paredones and Lolol, relevant seizures were made. All of them in places that are difficult to access, where the OS-7 must take long walks, up to seven hours to arrive, without knowing what they will encounter and carry out the procedure. They must always act with their police security protections to act, because in some cases they not only find drugs, there have also been seizures of weapons and the arrest of people dedicated to this crime.
ENTRY AND REGISTRATION DILIGENCES
In the case of entrances to homes in search of drugs, these are always carried out in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office and the participation of other cooperating entities such as the GOPE, COP and territorial Carabineros that allow securing the place to develop a successful procedure and achieve the objectives. which is taking drugs off the streets and arresting those responsible. PREVENTION
Another of the fundamental areas for OS-7 is to develop prevention actions. In that sense, they give talks to students in schools related to drug possession and consumption and in neighborhood meetings; They also provide guidance and information to parents and guardians to detect consumption in adolescents early. The great mission of the OS7 will always be to prevent drugs from reaching children, adolescents, and the community and to dismantle the gangs that are dedicated to it.
