ONE man has discovered he won more than £34,000 while scrolling on Facebook.

Neil Thomson, 50, won the People’s Postcode Lottery yesterday but only realized while scrolling the social media site.

With two tickets, Neil, a caravan engineer, won more than £34,000 in the draw.

The Forgandenny man told The Courier: “I was at work and was on The Courier’s Facebook where I saw about the lottery win and noticed it was my postcode.

“I was like, ‘Wait a minute’, and saw that I was going to win at least £10,000 with my two tickets. “I was buzzing all day.”

But elation turned to tragedy when he arrived home to find out that a cyst had been found on the spine of his 28-year-old nephew Craig.

The find came after Craig had already been diagnosed with cancer last year.

Neil said he felt “all over the place” following the win and then the bad news.

Caring Neil said he sent his sister a text the next morning and told her to look into private treatment for Craig.

“She said no. I have some health issues myself and she said that I need to spend it on myself, his cancer isn’t aggressive and to leave it.”

He’s now pledged to help where he can if his sister will let him.

Meanwhile, an ex-police officer became Scotland’s newest millionaire after scooping a huge sum.

David Crowder, 62, won a massive £1.02million and said he now plans to treat his friends with a luxurious golf trip.

It was the biggest-ever monthly Millions prize win in Scotland with each ticket worth £340,000.

Like Neil, David managed to take home £1.02million after playing with three tickets – meaning his original prize of £340,000 tripled.

He added: “I don’t know how I’m feeling. I’m a bit shell-shocked. I thought £15,000 or even £5,000 would have been a lot, but I’m absolutely stunned.

“I’m overwhelmed, flabbergasted, blown away. My legs feel like jelly and I’ve got a lump in my throat.

“I’m going to have to take a bit of time to get my head round this.

“I like doing things for charities, so why would I not keep playing after this. I’m from a council scheme in Perth and this just doesn’t happen.

How to play People’s Postcode Lottery

People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.
