Puri Railway Station: 4 Hurt In Portico Collapse At Puri Stn | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Four workers, engaged in redevelopment work, were injured after an under-construction portico of a building at Puri railway station collapsed on Sunday. Locals said four workers were working on the top of the portico and two others were on the ground. “All of them have been rescued. Four of the workers have been taken to the district headquarters hospital in Puri for treatment,” said an official of the construction company. Their condition was stated to be stable.Fire services were immediately informed about the incident, which occurred around 10.30 am. The fire services personnel rescued the workers. “An unfortunate incident occurred at Puri railway station. Six workers were working at the site at the time of the incident, four of them suffered injuries. All injured workers have been promptly moved to the hospital and are currently out of danger,” an official statement issued by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) read. The railways ordered an investigation into the incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of the Puri station, at an estimated cost of Rs 161.5 crore, on May 18 last year. Inspired by local architecture of temples, the redeveloped station will be capable of handling four lakh passengers per day. The deadline set for completion of the project is July 2025.The revamped station will have an elaborate roof plaza, segregated entry and exit, solar panels, water conservation and rain harvesting facilities, modern green buildings with effluent treatment plant and solid waste management. It is being designed and developed to cater to the future needs of people, the ECoR said.
