JK Kupwara Rain News: Sudden heavy rains lashed Jammu & Kashmir’s Kupwara on Monday, triggering flash floods in several parts of the border district. Several buildings and roads across the district were damaged due to flooding caused by the incessant rains. Several streams across Kashmir were in spate due to the rainfall that continued for the past 48 hours. Meanwhile, authorities ordered the suspension of classes in schools in Kupwara in view of the inclement weather.

However, teaching and non-teaching staff were required by the administration to report to duty to ensure safety of assets of their respective schools, officials cited by news agency PTI said. Rescue operations were underway in several parts of the district. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted wet weather in the area until Tuesday. There were no reports of casualties due to the flooding.

Kupwara Flash Flood Updates

“In view of inclement weather and an avalanche warning issued by the Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority (JKSDMA), class work in all schools across the district is suspended on 29-4-2024 as a precautionary measure for the safety of students, “an official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Police teams carried out operations in the district to evacuate civilians from waterlogged areas.

Flood-like situation was witnessed in Kupwara’s Chogal village.

Amid heavy rainfall in parts of the district, Kupwara’s Machil sector witnessed fresh snowfall.

“The weather will improve from Tuesday. The weather will be generally dry with no major activity from May 1 to May 5,” a weather department official stated.
