Pune: The rural police have arrested two men, including a criminal on records, from Shrigonda in Ahmednagar district in connection with the robbery and murder of a 76-year-old woman. The crime occurred in Jategaon Budruk of Shirur taluka, around 58km from Pune city, on April 23. Inspector Deepratan Gaikwad of the Shikrapur police said, “The arrested duo and their minor accomplice broke into the house after finding the door locked from outside. However, they saw that the woman was at home, bludgeoned her to death and robbed her gold jewelery and cash, collectively worth Rs1.23 lakh.”Gaikwad added that the duo, Avinash Kale (29) of Shrigonda and Pravin Bhosale (21) of Talegaon Dabhade, were arrested with the help of technical investigations and a tip-off by informants. “We have detained their minor accomplice,” the officer said. Victim Krishnabai Ingawale lived alone; her son’s family resides 100m away. Every night, the victim’s daughter-in-law locked her house from outside and opened it the next morning. “The murder came to light in the morning of April 23, when the daughter-in-law found Krishnabai murdered, while her gold ornaments and Rs3,000 were missing,” sub-inspector Mahesh Dongare of the Shikrapur police said. Dongare said the woman was bludgeoned to death with a blunt object. “We didn’t have a clue about the suspects. Technical probe and a tip-off led us to the trio, who had fled to the neighboring district,” he reported. During questioning, the suspects revealed that they found the house locked and decided to burgle it. “After breaking in.” they found her inside her. Before she could raise an alarm, they bludgeoned her to death and robbed her,” Dongare said, adding, “We are in the process of recovering the robbed items from her. Kale has 17 cases of dacoity against him, including two with murders. The other two also have cases against them.”
