In the early hours of today, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook the region of Cuscogenerating concern among the inhabitants of the province of Quispicanchi, according to reports from the National Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (PGI). The tremor, which had a depth of 10 kilometers, was felt intensely in the area, causing more than 1 thousand people to be affected.

The National Seismological Service (SSN) Web reported on the temporary suspension of visits to two prominent historical temples in the Cusco region, due to the damage detected in the infrastructure after recent seismic events.

The SSN Web also reported damage in other parts of the region, including the Andahuaylillas police station and several districts such as Urcos, Lucre and Huaros. These incidents have generated concern among local authorities and the affected population.

On the other hand, the National Emergency Operations Center has specified that more than 1,183 people are affected, residing in 486 homes in various areas of the region. This data underlines the magnitude of the impact of recent seismic events on the lives of local inhabitants.

However, this seismic event was not the only one in the town of Andahuaylillas, Quispicanchi. Subsequently, two aftershocks were recorded, although of lower intensity. At 6:59 a.m., a magnitude 3.4 tremor was felt, followed by another at 7:06 a.m., with a magnitude of 3.3.

Local authorities took immediate measures to safeguard the safety of the population. Given the risk of more collapses and possible aftershocks, it was decided to suspend classes in schools in the area, with the aim of protecting students.

The images shared by the Andina agency show the effects of the earthquake on local infrastructure. Two homes suffered partial collapses, with the collapse of balconies and rear walls. In addition, rock slides were reported on the road, which caused a truck to become trapped.

According to RPP reports, residents chose to evacuate their homes and move to safe places due to the possibility of new aftershocks. This preventive measure seeks to guarantee the integrity of the families affected by the earthquake and its consequences.

On the other hand, the emblematic church of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas, recognized as the Sistine Chapel of America for the beauty of its colonial paintings, has suffered damage due to the recent earthquakes that have shaken the Cusco region.

Preliminary reports indicate that the infrastructure of the colonial monument has been affected, with visible cracks in walls, doors and windows. Photos and videos shared online show the extent of the damage, sparking concern among cultural heritage lovers.

Given this situation, Cusco authorities are traveling to the site to assess the damage and determine the necessary response actions. As a preventive measure, tourist visits to this church, part of the Andean Baroque Route, have been suspended until further notice.

The Cusco region has been shaken by a series of earthquakes that have caused concern among local residents. The Regional Office of Citizen Security, National Defense and COER of the Regional Government of Cusco reported that a 4.0 magnitude earthquake registered in Andahuaylillas caused rocks to fall on the Piñipampa – Huarcapay road.

The rockfall occurred in the province of Quispicanchi, specifically on the Piñipampa-Huarcapay road, located in the district of Lucre. The earthquake, recorded on Tuesday April 16 around 8:56:55 p.m., it had a depth of 15 kilometers and its epicenter was located 11 kilometers northwest of Andahuaylillas, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).

The earthquake was felt with strong intensity in the southeastern area of ​​the city of Cusco, as well as in the districts of Oropesa, Saylla, San Jerónimo, Santiago, Wanchaq, San Sebastián, Poroy and other nearby towns.

The authorities of the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER) of Cusco reported two aftershocks of lower intensity after the initial earthquake. These aftershocks were perceived in the towns of Oropesa, Lucre, Andahuaylillas, Huaro and Urcos.

After the 4.0 magnitude earthquake, it was reported that a slope slide and the fall of rocks of considerable size occurred on the section of the Piñipampa-Huacarpay highway, which prevented free vehicular traffic in the area. The situation has generated concern among residents and has put local authorities on alert, who continue to monitor the situation to guarantee the safety of the affected population.
