Kaiju No. 8 is the newest anime adaptation from the online platform Shonen Jump+, set in a world where kaiju are a constant threat to humanity. In an attempt to stop their assault, Japan puts together the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, handing out the state-of-the-art weaponry needed to combat these monsters.

The Anti-Kaiju Defense Force is host to a variety of diverse characters, each one from different backgrounds and situations. While not everyone important has had a significant role in the anime yet, there are a handful of characters fans of the anime should know a little about. 6 Kafka Hibino

The Man Who Became A Kaiju

Kafka Hibino used to dream of joining the Defense Force, but after failing to get in, he ends up as a member of the clean-up crew, disposing of kaiju remains after they have been killed. He is easily one of the oldest characters in the series, being 32 years old at the start. His birthday is on the 5th of Augustand he stands at 5’11” (181cm) tall

Although he takes pride in his work, Kafka still regrets not being able to join the Defense Force, and after being encouraged by Reno, he decides to attempt the exam once more. However, just as he decides this, his body is invaded by a strange parasite, which transforms him into what becomes known as the mysterious Kaiju No. 8.

5 Ichikawa Reindeer

A Passionate Defense Force Hopeful

Ichikawa Reindeer is a young man hoping to join the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. He was only 18 years old at the start of the series, and his birthday is on the 12th of April. He stands about 5’8.5″ (174cm) tall, making him slightly shorter than the more robust Kafka.

Although Reno Ichikawa seems prickly at first, he is a passionate young man who has a heroic spirit. 4 Kikoru Shinomiya

A Proud And Talented Prodigy

Kikoru Shinomiya is a young woman who takes the Defense Force Exam alongside Kafka and Reno. She is the youngest entrant there at 16 years oldand her birthday is on September 7th. Standing at 5’2″ (157cm)she is one of the shortest characters in the main cast.

Kikoru Shinomiya is easily the strongest of the new entrants, having trained to fight against kaiju since his youth. Although she is incredibly haughty and cares little about people she has no interest in, she is unmistakably skilled for her age. Although she initially starts off on the wrong foot with Kafka and Leno, the three soon become a tight trio of comrades.

Mina Ashiro is the captain of the Third Division of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, and essentially one of his aces, often killing massive kaiju single-handedly. Mina is young for a captain, being only 27 years old, showcasing her immense talent and skill. Her birthday is on the 17th of Juneand she stands 5’7″ (169cm) tall

The Kaiju No. 8 anime makes history as it is set to be the first anime title to stream on the social media site X (formerly known as Twitter).

In her childhood, she and Kafka Hibino made a promise to join the Defense Force and defeat the kaiju once and for all. However, she was the only one to make it into the force, with Kafka unable to pass the exam. Despite this, she still hopes that one day she will be able to fulfill the promise she made with him as a child.

2 Soshiro Hoshina

The Wise-Cracking Vice-Captain

Soshiro Hoshina is the Vice-Captain of the Third Division, serving as a subordinate to Mina Ashiro. He was born on the 21st of November and stands at a height of 5’7″ (171cm)making him slightly taller than his commanding officer.

Unlike the other members of the Defense Force, who generally use firearms, Hoshina uses bladed weapons in battle, a skill that he uses to slaughter smaller kaiju. Although he can at times seem like an unserious joker, Hoshina is one of the strongest members of the Defense Force’s Third Division, and his ability is unquestioned.

1 Iharu Furuhashi

A Hot-Blooded, Competitive Soldier

Iharu Furuhashi is another new applicant who took the exam with Kafka and Leno. He is 19 years oldand his birthday is on the 23rd of July. He stands at 5’10” (177cm)making him quite tall among the other cast members.

Furuhashi is someone with a lot of pride in his own skills, which often makes him butt heads with other soldiers who happen to match him in terms of achievement and ability. He quickly strikes up a one-sided rivalry with Reno Ichikawa for this reason, although he still has the ability to back up his boasts of him.
