The exact cause behind the spread of the fire is not known. According to the fire officials, the owner blamed a farm fire for this incident. However, the fire officials could not find any farm fire nearby. The fire brigade officials were refilling the fire tenders from a tube well in the nearby field area, as the unit lacked any such fire safety arrangements.
The leading fireman, Rajan Kumar, said, “The velocity of the flames is high, and the black smoke is creating major difficulty in controlling the fire as it has spread completely in the mountains of stubble.” He mentioned that they had even called for a JCB machine so that the mountains could be razed and then the fire could be controlled, but the driver refused to do anything as the fire could have burned the tires of the JCB. He said it would take a long time to control the fire.
