UCB student team wins a prize in NASA international competition – eju.tv

The VEMEC team made up of students from the San Pablo Catholic University of La Paz and Tarija was awarded by NASA in an international competition held by this space agency in the United States.

The Bolivian representatives achieved the “Most Improved Performance Award” at the 30th Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC).

The annual engineering competition, one of NASA’s longest-running challenges, held its final event April 19 and 20 at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, near the Marshall Space Flight Center. NASA, reported in a press release from the agency.

The Bolivian team was made up of 12 students and led by the director of the Mechatronic Engineering degree in La Paz, Fabio Díaz.

In total 72 teams from all over the world participated. In the competition, each team had to assemble a rover-type vehicle that met all the criteria determined by NASA, according to a UCB press release.

Then, with the rover vehicle, an obstacle course designed by NASA had to be completed. The objective was to do it in the shortest time possible and effectively resolve any mishap that the vehicle may have, in an organized and team manner, the note adds.
