BOISE, Idaho — Chad Daybell’s family took the stand at Daybell’s trial today. The idea was to give swearers a better idea of how he reacted to his wife’s death.
His wife, Tammy Douglas Daybell, died in October 2019. She was exhumed two months after her burial, when an autopsy revealed that she died by homicide from suffocation.
Chad Daybell is charged with first-degree murder for her death, as well as the deaths of his current wife’s children, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan.

When Chad Daybell’s mother took the stand on Thursday, she said Daybell seemed to be a normal, grieving husband at Tammy’s funeral.
As she left, Chad’s mother smiled at him, as well as his brother who was sitting in the courtroom audience.
What Daybell’s mother told the jury on Thursday was very different than the story told by Tammy Daybell’s family. They say that Chad Daybell seemed stoic on the day of Tammy Daybell’s funeral.

Later, Chad Daybell’s sister-in-law took the stand.
She said that, within a span of a few weeks, Chad Daybell gave her two different reasons for why Tammy Daybell died.
She also said their relationship became strained back 2014, when he started telling people he was having visions of the end of times.
