Amit Shah Calls for CBI Probe into Neha Hiremath’s Murder Case
Hubbali: Union Home Minister Amit Shahwhile addressing a rally in Chikkodi, Karnataka, has called for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation into the murder of Neha Hiremath, a 23-year-old college student who was brutally killed on his college campus in Dharwad last month. Shah said that the CBI would take “strong action” against the accused.
Earlier this week on Wednesday, Amit Shah met with Neha’s grieving parents in Hubbali, Karnataka. Neha Hiremath was stabbed to death on April 18, at the college premises where she studied. The accused, identified as Fayaz, a former student and MCA dropout, was captured on CCTV footage attacking Neha multiple times before fleeing the scene.
The attack has led to widespread condemnation and demands for justice throughout Karnataka, with students and locals calling for severe punishment for the accused. Neha and Fayaz were former classmates in a Bachelor of Computer Applications program. Fayaz, who did not advance to the Master’s program, allegedly held resentment after Neha distanced herself from him following his academic failure.

Congress leader Niranjana Hiremath, Neha’s father, said that he had proposed to Neha, but was rejected. “He was an old student and had proposed to Neha. However, she rejected his proposal, stating that they both belonged to different castes and she was not interested in pursuing any kind of relationship with him. Not able to accept the rejection, he was filled with anger due to which he stabbed my daughter,” said Neha’s father.
