How did the former Lakers player die?

Yesad news broke out in the basketball world as former NBA guard Darius Morris he died at the age of 33.

The former Michigan star was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011 where he spent two seasons before being in three cities during the 2013-2014 season.

Morris family confirmed his death in a statement to TMZ Sports.

“With great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” the statement said. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

The Lakers posted a picture of Morris on social media lamenting the death of their former player.

Morris was the 41st overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft and during his time with the purple and gold, he played in 48 games, 19 of those as a starter. He also averaged 10.5 points and 3.0 assists in the teams first-round loss to the San Antonio Spurs, as he started two of the teams four games.

For his third season in the league, Morris had some time in Philadelphia with the 76ers, with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies. The following season in the NBA was his last, as he played 38 games for the Brooklyn Nets.

A G-League journey for Darius Morris

From 2016 to 2020, Darius Morris kept playing professionally but he was in the NBAs G-League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and the Stanta Cruz Warriors, also with the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA summer league and overseas in China, Russia and France .

Morris played two seasons in college with the Wolverines, where he earned third-team All-Big Ten honors in the 2010-2011 season, averaging 15.0 points, 6.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game during his sophomore year before declaring for the NBA draft.
