The fire was reported about 10 pm Saturday in Wayne.

Two firefighters were injured and a family’s pet was killed when a house caught fire Saturday night in Passaic County, authorities said.

Flames were reported coming from a home on Lenox Road in Wayne about 10 pm and firefighters entered with a hose through the front door.

The first-responders tried to save a dog still inside, but were met with heavy fire conditions throughout the first and second floors, fire officials said in a statement.

Firefighters fought the fire for several hours. Two were taken to a local hospital with unspecified injuries that were not considered life-threatening, officials said.

In addition to Wayne, fire companies from Pequannock, Lincoln Park and Pompton Lakes assisted.
