South Carolina murder suspects caught in Randolph County

RANDOPLH COUNTY, NC — On Friday, an alert was sent out by local authorities from York County, South Carolina claiming two murder suspects had fled the scene. The alert said that the fugitives were reportedly heading north on I-85 and were believed to near exit 91 in Randolph County.

Sheriff’s deputies and other local law enforcement began a search for the suspect vehicle. Deputies soon found a black vehicle with a South Carolina plate driving in the center lane, with a North Carolina State Highway Patrol vehicle following close behind.

Deputies joined the Trooper, who then pulled over the vehicle. The subjects, identified as Mitchell Charles Strickland and Shelby Jeanette Strickland, cooperated with authorities and were arrested. Firearms were found during a vehicle search.

Mitchell Strickland, 38, faces a murder charge as well as weapon possession during a violent crime. Shelby Strickland, 32, is held on an accessory to murder charge.

Both Stricklands were arrested on scene, taken to the Randolph County Detention Center, and are now awaiting extradition back to South Carolina.
