Fire that destroyed vacant New Portland residence remains under investigation

NEW PORTLAND — The cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant residence Sunday is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

Shortly before 6 pm Sunday, firefighters from New Portland were dispatched to a structure fire at 15 Taylor’s Pit Road.

New Portland Fire Chief Kip Poulin did not immediately return to a call Monday seeking information.

Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety said the Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and an investigator responded to the scene.

Also responding to the fire were the Anson Fire Department, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Northstar Ambulance.
