Andrés Micolta’s Pachuca continues in the race for the title in the Liga MX :: Olé Ecuador

05/06/2024 8:06 p.m.

The eight qualifiers for the quarterfinals of the Liga MX were defined this weekend with the Repechage dispute. Ecuadorian Andrés Micolta’s Pachuca defeated Necaxa 2-1 and secured a place among the best eight teams. Pumas was the other team that got its ticket from the Repechage.

Micolta was a starter in the team led by Guillermo Almada, playing 90 minutes of the game. The 24-year-old defender is the only Ecuadorian who will play in the quarterfinals of the Liga MX, with the other tricolors being eliminated in the Regular Phase or the Repechage.

Pachuca has the opportunity to fight for the Liga MX title, which they have not won since 2022, when they won the Apertura Tournament thanks to Almada. The Uruguayan coach once again had an Ecuadorian in his ranks, leading him to improve his game and giving him a place among the starters.

Los Tuzos will face América in the quarterfinals, re-editing the duel for the semifinals of the Concachampions, which Pachuca ended up taking with a 3-2 overall score. Micolta was one of Pachuca’s scorers in that key, being key to getting to the final. Almada’s team will play the definition of the tournament on June 1 against Columbus Crew.

Micolta has played 10 games with Pachuca, in which he has a goal, an assist and two yellow cards. The former El Nacional has been earning a space in recent weeks and now hopes to be part of the star team for the quarterfinals against América.

The quarterfinals of the Liga MX will have the presence of two former LigaPro: Martín Anselmi and Lorenzo Faravelli. The coach and the player with a past in Independiente del Valle are part of Cruz Azul, a team that came in second place in the Regular Phase, qualifying directly for the quarterfinals.

Anselmi had a turbulent start as coach of Cruz Azul, but as the games went by the team began to adapt to his idea with Faravelli as one of the football leaders. The Cement Machine wants the title and will begin its path towards it against Pumas. The eight teams that will seek to be champions are: Pachuca, América, Cruz Azul, Pumas, Chivas, Toluca, Tigres and Monterrey.
