The Firefighters have found, after eight hours of searching, the lifeless bodies of the two buried workers after part of the floors of a building under construction located at the confluence collapsed between the streets of Lezama and Llodioin the vicinity of Avenida del Cardenal de Herrera Oria in Madrid.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Emergencies confirmed that rescuers had found the bodies of these two men. Based on the testimonies of his companions, one of them would have the Colombian nationality and another is a native of Niger. They were both surprised by the collapse of the upper floors of the building.

According to witnesses and rescue teams, these two men were working on the rehabilitation of the property on the fourth floor when the forgings collapsed of the fifth and sixth floors, a concrete slab of about eight tons. The incident also affected the stability of the building, complicating rescue efforts.

According to detailed municipal sources consulted by El Confidencial, a third worker has been rescued and transferred to the hospital. As a result of the event, this man has been seriously injured and, apart from more detailed medical examinations, has a broken leg and multiple bruises.

The Emergency services, once the alarm went off, They quickly moved to the place, very close to one of the largest avenues in the capital, and where the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, also arrived, after learning of the events, which took place on the 11:15 a.m.. At that moment, there was a loud noise in the area.

In statements to the media present, and reported by Efe, the mayor stated that both workers were buried under a large concrete slab weighing about eight tons and even then it was pessimistic with his forecasts. “Everything indicates” that they could have died, Almeida said at midday, a prediction that ended up being confirmed late in the afternoon.

The property, at the time the slabs collapsed, was not occupied or being used, beyond having the workers in charge of carrying out the rehabilitation tasks inside. In fact, only its structure was standing and it was practically a skeleton after the different floors had been emptied to undertake said project.

The building in which the accident took place was an old office complex that housed the facilities of a large insurance company. However, as is the case with other properties of this type in the capital, it was being subject to a practically comprehensive rehabilitation before changing use and, as El Confidencial reported, being converted into homes.
