Two separate wildfires in Williams Lake kept fire crews busy overnight Friday, May 10.

Williams Lake director of protective services said a call came in at 11:30 pm there was a structure fire on Murray Drive.

“Upon arrival, the duty officer immediately updated the call type to two separate wildfires spreading along the backside of numerous properties, above the train tracks on Murray Drive,” he told the Tribune Saturday.

Dean noted one of the fires was on the hillside at the end of the cul-de-sac and about one hectare in size and spreading through the grass.

The second fire closer to the Murray Drive and Boundary Street area was closer to the rear of the properties and spreading toward machinery and equipment.

Two large apparatus and two command vehicles with 12 firefighters were involved in the response and were able to limit the fires from spreading further.

There was some property damage in the back of one of the businesses but no structural impact, Dean confirmed.

Crews wrapped up by 1:15 am with another hour of cleaning up at the fire hall.

“At this time the cause of the fire has not been determined,” Dean said.
