Parents claim death due to Covishield, to file lawsuit against Serum Institute of India
Parents nationwide intend to sue Pune’s Serum Institute of India (SII) and government officials responsible for the Covid vaccine rollout. They allege their children’s deaths resulted from vaccine side effects. Parents of 8 victims from Kerala, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kapurthala. This action follows AstraZeneca’s acknowledgment in a UK court that its Covid vaccine triggered Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS).

In February, AstraZeneca admitted in court documents about the possibility of rare side effects caused due to its vaccines. Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) is a rare but serious condition that has been associated with certain COVID-19 vaccines, notably the AstraZeneca vaccine. TTS involves the formation of blood clots in combination with low levels of platelets (thrombocytopenia), which are essential for blood clotting.

“The parents are looking for exemplary punitive action and compensation, not from taxpayers, but from SII and govt authorities responsible for its roll-out. We are exploring the legal options available,” Venugopalan, father of 20-year-old Karunya, who died in July 2021 told TOI. “Recently I received four more cases of deaths and two of serious injuries caused by Covishield,” he added.

“When we lost Rithu, we did not have any proof in hand because the local officials were not even providing us with her autopsy report. We had to file a couple of RTIs to get that information. The autopsy report clearly said her death was caused by Covishield because of clotting in the brain,” Rachana told the media; she lost her 18-year-old daughter Rithaika in June 2021.

TTS condition typically presents with symptoms such as severe headaches, blurred vision, shortness of breath, chest pain, abdominal pain, leg swelling, or persistent abdominal pain. These symptoms often occur within days to weeks after receiving the vaccine.

TTS caused by an immune response triggered by the vaccine, leads to formation of abnormal blood clots. Given the seriousness of TTS, prompt medical attention is crucial if any symptoms suggestive of blood clots or thrombocytopenia develop after vaccination.
