Her father died four years ago due to the alleged negligence of the doctors. The family ran from post to pillage to get justice, but all of their efforts went in vain. It motivated Dimple to contest the elections from Patiala as an independent candidate.

Dimple, a social worker, is among the 16 candidates who have filed their nomination papers from Patiala Lok Sabha constituency. She has studied until Class 10 and is confident of winning the election.

Speaking to The Indian Express, the independent candidate said that around four years ago his father died due to the negligence of doctors. “Nobody helped us,” she said adding that she wants to weed out corruption, a reason why she is fighting the election.

Providing insights on her campaign, the independent candidate said that she starts her campaign at 9 am and ends it at around 7.30 pm.

“I covered Patiala and its nearby constituencies. “I raised the issue of corruption, wherever I go, I find that corruption is deep-rooted,” Dimple added.

Festive offer

Dimple, whose husband is an electrician, she wants to beat the bigwigs like sitting MP Preneet Kaur, former MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh, and SAD’s NK Sharma. Patiala seat was considered a fiefdom of royal family of Patiala.

Preneet Kaur, who is the wife of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh, won the seat in 2004, 2009 and 2019. She lost in 2014 to Gandhi, who then contested on AAP’s ticket.

When asked how she approaches the people during her campaign, Dimple said that she is establishing a chord with the people as she talks about the issues.

“Corruption is a big issue, the administrative lapses also haunt common people like us, the big leaders make false promises they never talk about the problems people face at lower level. If you go to the government offices, you will see how people are forced to wait long to even get a petty job done,” she pointed out.

Continuing further, Dimple said that she is known in Patiala as she is a social worker and has done held blood donation camps for long. Such acts convinced her that people will not only listen to her, but will vote for her as well.

Replying to a question that how she will defeat the bigwigs, she drew parallels with Congress’s Gandhi. “When Dr Dharamvira Gandhi won the elections in 2014, people voted for him not because he was a big leader, but since he was a doctor, who was known for his social work,” she concluded.
