McKEES ROCKS — It wasn’t close.

Burgettstown scored four in its first at-bats and six in its second, which provided more than enough offense for starter Brodie Kuzior in a 10-3 win over Jeannette in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs at Burkett Park.

Kuzior threw all 7 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out 10.

Burgettstown took an early lead at the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Wyatt Stephenson. One batter later, Riley Kennedy drove home Sam Elich with a single. Jacob McNabb then drove home a run with a single to make it 4-0.

Burgettstown added another in the second when a single by Matthew Bredel scored No. 9 James Leuice, who doubled to start the inning. Kuzior then singled home Bredel to make it 6-0, effectively putting the game out of reach. Burgettstown ended up putting up six in the second to go ahead 10-0.

“Everybody hit the ball the first couple of innings…,” Burgettstown coach Doug Tunno said after the game. “We hit the ball hard. Even the outs were hit hard.”

Although 10 runs through two innings isn’t normal for a playoff game, Tunno was confident the bats would stay hot.

“We’ve been hitting pretty good the last part of the year,” he said. “So, “I wasn’t surprised.”

Burgettstown will play No. 5 Greensburg Central Monday at a site to be determined.

For Tunno, the key for Burgettstown will be to “hit and have good pitching.”

“I have two good lefties starters who have to go deep into the game the way Brodie did today,” Tunno said.
